processingMethod

Film, Double-Bubble

A blown film process where the film is first blown similar to a typical blown film (first bubble), collapsed into a flat tube, then reheated and inflated a second time to a larger diameter tube (second bubble). The purpose is to impart a high amount of biaxial orientation in the film by stretching in both the machine direction and transverse direction. This biaxial orientation leads to a high degree of molecular orientation which greatly increases tensile strength. Film produced in this process is used for shrink film, shrink tubes, sausage casing, lidding, and other packaging applications.
